Medical Industry Executive Joins The Vertical Group

SUMMIT, NJ (November 2, 2000) - The Vertical Group, a leading medical technology venture capital firm, announced today that Yue-Teh Jang, Ph.D., a 20 year veteran of the medical device industry, has joined the firm as a general partner in its Silicon Valley office.

Jack Lasersohn, a partner of the The Vertical Group said, "We are delighted that Dr. Jang is joining The Vertical Group. His experience and network of clinical and engineering relationships will permit our firm to expand its seed and early stage venture activities on the West Coast."

Dr. Jang was the President and CEO of EMBOL-X, Inc. since 1997. Under Dr. Jang's leadership, EMBOL-X pioneered the development of intravascular filter technology to prevent stroke and embolization during heart surgery and interventional cardiovascular procedures. From 1995 until 1997, he was Vice President of Corporate Research & Development with Boston Scientific. From 1989 until 1995, Dr. Jang was Vice President of Research & Development with CardioVascular Imaging Systems (CVIS), the market leader in intraluminal ultrasound which was acquired by Boston Scientific in 1995. From 1982 until 1989 Dr. Jang held various engineering and management positions at Mallinkrodt Medical, Inc. (recently acquired by Tyco International) and Deseret Medical, Inc. (now a division of Becton Dickinson). Dr. Jang holds a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Utah and is a graduate of the Stanford University Executive Program. He is the holder of twenty-five U.S. patents. Dr. Jang is a member of the Board of Directors of EMBOL-X, Medical Technology Group, and Artemis, Inc.
