The Vertical Group is a venture capital firm that is focused on the fields of medical technology and biotechnology.

For more than 30 years,the principals of The Vertical Group have been founders, early stage investors, major shareholders, and executives of many of the medical technology industry's most successful companies including: American Medical Systems, Cardiovascular Imaging Systems, Cardio Thoracic Systems, EP Technologies, Intermedics, Kyphon Corporation, OEC Medical, SciMed Life Systems, Support Systems International, Ventana Medical Systems, Wright Medical Group, and Xomed Surgical Products. The Vertical Group's principals are active in National Venture Capital Association (NVCA) activities, and were among the founders of the Association's Medical Industry Group.

The Vertical Group manages private partnerships with a "vertical" range of investments in the medical technology and biotechnology fields. The Vertical Group's investments include: early and late venture stage companies; private operating companies involved in buy-out or corporate spin-off transactions; and public companies of all sizes. The Vertical Group's private partnerships have an "evergreen" structure (i.e. without a defined life), and over 50% of partnership capital is represented by the firm's four founding General Partners and two Special Limited Partners.

The Vertical Group is the successor to the venture capital division of F. Eberstadt & Co., and has been an independent firm since 1988. In 1992 The Vertical Group expanded the scope of its investment activities in a merger with Paddington Partners, a firm engaged in special situation investments, primarily public health care equities. The Vertical Group is headquartered in Summit, New Jersey, and has an office in Palo Alto, California.
